Your Cultural Workshop Experience Includes:
- One full hour of hands-on cultural activities from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM.
- The chance to participate in 2–3 cultural workshops during this experience (see full list of workshops below).
- All materials are provided, and you'll leave with whatever you make.
- An intimate, small-group experience, making it perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers.
- All age groups can participate (Children ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult).
- The opportunity to wear what you create during the Hula Show, celebrating your connection to Hawai‘i in the most memorable way.

Price: $30 per ticket, per person
Location: The workshops will take place in the center of the gardens, adjacent to the Prince Building, where the Hula Show takes place.
Time: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM (during the pre-show)
Availability: Limited spots available—we strongly encourage guests to book at least 48 hours in advance to secure their workshop experience. Walk-up availability on the day of the show is not guaranteed. Open to all ages (Children ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult).
Eligibility: Available only to ticketed guests of the South Maui Gardens Hula Show (ticketed guests must purchase add-on ticket).
Hula Lessons
Discover the beauty of Hawaiian culture through hula, Hawai‘i’s iconic dance of storytelling. Hula is a cultural expression passed down through generations, preserving history, legends, and traditions. Guests will learn basic steps, hand motions, and the meaning behind this graceful art form, connecting them to the music and spirit of the islands. After taking this workshop, guests will have the opportunity to perform on stage what they learn during our pre-show.
These lessons offer an educational introduction that deepens your appreciation for the performances you’ll witness later in the evening, making the show more interactive and meaningful. Perfect for all ages and experience levels!
Ti Leaf Lei Making with Flowers
Create your own traditional Hawaiian lei using fresh ti leaves and vibrant tropical blooms. This hands-on workshop teaches guests the cultural significance of lei and the artistry behind this cherished symbol of aloha.
In Hawai‘i, lei represent love, respect, and celebration. During this workshop, guests will gain insight into the sacred role lei play in marking life’s most important moments. Each lei created is unique and personal, a reminder of your time on Maui and at our Hula Show.
Coconut Weaving
Learn the ancient Polynesian skill of coconut frond weaving. Participants will use green and brown coconut leaves to craft simple, beautiful creations—an authentic connection to island life and resourcefulness.
Coconut palms have long been considered the “tree of life” across the Pacific, providing food, shelter, and craft materials. You’ll discover how island communities traditionally used every part of the coconut to create useful and beautiful items. Learning this timeless skill highlights the ingenuity and creativity of Polynesian culture, our guests will leave with a handmade piece of island artistry.
Lei Po‘o (Floral Head Lei) Making
Design a stunning side piece lei po‘o (a traditional Hawaiian head lei) from an array of fresh island flowers. This activity celebrates creativity, beauty, and Hawaiian heritage, perfect for photos and special occasions.
Lei po‘o are often worn during ceremonies, hula performances, and celebrations, symbolizing honor and joy. In this workshop, you’ll explore the tradition of adorning oneself with flowers, learning techniques to weave and secure each bloom into a beautiful side-piece crown. Guests are encouraged to wear their lei po‘o during the Hula Show, adding a festive and personal touch to the evening.
Kukui Nut & Shell Bracelet Crafting
Make your own bracelet featuring kukui nuts, shells, and other natural materials. Guests will take home a meaningful handmade keepsake that reflects Hawai‘i’s natural beauty and cultural traditions.
Kukui nuts, once used as candles and medicine, hold deep cultural significance in Hawai‘i as symbols of enlightenment, knowledge, and protection. When paired with ocean shells and natural materials, they create jewelry that embodies both the land and sea. In this workshop, guests will craft a bracelet that is both stylish and culturally rich—a wearable reminder of their Maui experience and the traditions that make Hawai‘i so unique.
