An Evening of Culture, Learning, and Connection

Experience the magic of South Maui Gardens' Hula Performance, as you journey through Polynesia on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. As the only venue of its kind in Kihei, our intimate outdoor setting ensures an enriching and educational experience for every guest starting at $100 per person. Immerse yourself in the captivating world of traditional Polynesian dance, tracing the cultural tapestry from Hawai'i to Aotearoa (New Zealand), Tahiti, and Samoa. Engaging storytelling, audience participation, and remarkable performances make this experience one-of-a-kind and deeply enriching.

Beginning at 5:00 PM, enjoy 30-45 minutes of traditional Hawaiian music during our pre-show. The pre-show includes traditional Hawaiian music performed by live musicians and accompanied by a solo dancer. After a short intermission, come journey with us through the Pacific starting in the beautiful islands of Hawai’i.

Enjoy classic Hawaiian favorites through mele, oli, and traditional hula as we honor and learn about Hawai'i's cultural stories. We’ll then take you to Aotearoa (New Zealand), where you’ll learn about the haka and storytelling through song and dance from our Māori brothers and sisters. On to Tahiti, experience the dynamic energy and learn how movement and rhythm convey ancestral stories. The final stop on this journey brings us to Samoa, where the dazzling fire knife dance honors courage, tradition, and the role of fire in Samoan ceremonies. We’ll then end the evening with 10-15 minutes of live traditional Hawaiian music.

Our Hula Performance is an immersive, cultural journey designed to educate, connect, and inspire. Through authentic storytelling and powerful performances, we share the history, meaning, and traditions behind each dance and chant, offering a deeper understanding and education of hula and the interconnected cultures of Polynesia. Our Hula Performance is a celebration of Hawai'i's rich cultural heritage, and we hope it will leave you with a new wealth of knowledge and feeling inspired, uplifted, and full of aloha.

As a more budget friendly show (compared to 2-3x what you may pay for a full Luau elsewhere), this very much provided an evening of Hawaiian culture, music, and dance - exactly what we were looking for. We are also very happy to find a hula show outside of corporate hotel chain and be able to support a local organization while visiting Maui. With two very small children, sitting blanket style was perfect - able to enjoy the event while stepping away as needed! Bring a blanket and low chairs - there was plenty of room and picnic tables too."

“I loved this hula show! The performance took you on a journey of Polynesian dance and culture. Explaining where each style of dance originated and what the dance meant. Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, and New Zealand each area was highlighted in a beautiful way. It includes both male and female dancers, accompanied by live singers, ukulele and guitar. My family enjoyed getting to choose what to eat for dinner. The gardens have so many amazing food trucks to choose from. I definitely suggest this experience to everyone.”

"A lovely garden oasis with an incredible food truck park and walking paths. We ate here many times during our stay in Maui- and went to the Wednesday evening hula show which was fantastic and the timing (5-7pm) was great for us with a small child! This is in south Kihei so very close to shops and not too far away from the resort area. There is a large parking lot near the south entrance . I would highly recommend the South Maui Gardens on your next trip to Maui!!"

“The show was low-key which was perfect for our family. I've been to luau's before and the food/drink was not ideal, so I appreciated the versatility of the food trucks. There was more than enough space for my 4-year old daughter to dance around to the music, and enough room for my 1 year-old to run around. We appreciated the information and introduction to each of the dance styles of Polynesia. The dancers and emcee were fantastic. I would definitely recommend to families and anyone interested in a more low-key setting for a luau.”
